# Controlling DALI lighting from Home Assistant with the Lunatone integration

If you manage a DALI lighting system and use Home Assistant, you can make the two work together with Lunatone's official integration. All you need is a Lunatone gateway, and DALI dimmers and sensors will appear among Home Assistant's devices, ready for dashboards and automations.

The integration works with four devices from the Lunatone range:

- **DALI-2 IoT**
- **DALI-2 IoT4**
- **DALI-2 Display 7"**
- **DALI-2 Display 4"**

Before you begin, you need to meet three important prerequisites:

1. The DALI system is fully installed and working.
2. Home Assistant is set up and running.
3. The DALI-2 IoT or Display modules are installed and connected to the same network used by Home Assistant. Instructions can be found in the datasheets of the individual devices.

## Scanning DALI devices

The key step is the scan. DALI devices are not transferred automatically to Home Assistant: the Lunatone interface must first detect them. If you skip the scan, Home Assistant will only show the general DALI bus line, with no manageable components.

**Important note** There is also one aspect to consider that can cause confusion. Addressing performed with DALI Cockpit, Lunatone's free configuration tool, does not add dimmers and sensors to the device list of the Display or the IoT. The scan is a separate operation and covers DALI/DALI-2 dimmers (control gear) and DALI-2 sensors. Control devices, such as switches and input devices, are addressed but not listed, and are therefore not available in Home Assistant.

### **DALI-2 Display**

On the 7" and 4" Displays, addressing is performed directly from the display screen in the Settings > Devices menu. The 4" Basic Display cannot extend the DALI system. If the system has not been addressed yet, you must first perform addressing with DALI Cockpit, using the Display as the interface, and only afterwards scan the device list from the Basic.

### DALI-2 IoT4 / IoT

The scan can be started in two ways:

- DALI Cockpit (version 1.38.138): From the General tab, select the "Scan for devices" option.
- RESTful API: By sending an API request, you need to set the JSON parameters according to the state of the system:

| Situation | new installation | no Addressing |
|---|---|---|
| New DALI installation | true | false |
| Extending an existing DALI system | false | false |
| Scanning an already addressed system, without random addressing (does not add devices that have not yet been addressed) | false | true |

On the IoT4, which handles multiple lines, the **useLines** parameter lets you limit addressing to specific lines. If left empty ([ ]), all lines are addressed.

From Swagger, select the endpoint, choose “Try it out”, check the parameters and start the operation with “Execute”. Progress can be monitored with GET /dali/scan. When the status changes to “done”, you should compare the number of detected devices with the number actually present in the system.

### Adding the integration in Home Assistant

On the Home Assistant side, only a few steps are required:

1. Go to Settings → Devices & services → Integrations tab.
2. Lunatone devices may be discovered automatically and added right away. Otherwise, choose “Add integration” and search for the Lunatone brand.
3. Enter the address (URL) of the device you want to add.

After it is added, Home Assistant creates a device for:

- the DALI-2 IoT or Display itself;
- each DALI line;
- each compatible DALI device found during the scan, that is, the gear (dimmers, relays and the like) and the DALI-2 sensors.

## Supported features

**DALI line**

You can send broadcast commands, for example to turn all fixtures on or off at the same time. At present, however, the line does not return any information about the state of the lights, which therefore appears as “unknown” in Home Assistant.

**DALI/DALI-2 dimmers**

For individual fixtures, brightness control (DT6) is supported and, for compatible devices, color and color temperature control (DT8). Depending on the fixture type, the interface offers a simple brightness slider, the color wheel with separate adjustments for color and white, or warm and cool tone presets.

**DALI-2 sensors**

Motion (-303) and light (-304) instances are supported, as well as the Lunatone-specific generic instances of the DALI-2 CS THP AQ sensor, which detects temperature, humidity, air pressure and air quality.

Starting with release 2026.8, sensors are polled regularly by the interface device, making the configuration of DALI-2 events unnecessary. In Home Assistant, the values can be viewed along with their history.
