# Integration of VRV/VRF and Split HVAC units into Home Automation systems

There are several manufacturers of VRV/VRF and Split HVAC units for air conditioning and heating of environments such as offices, shops, and homes.

The most famous brands on the market are:

- Daikin
- Gree
- Hitachi
- LG
- Mitsubishi Electric
- Mitsubishi-Heavy
- Panasonic/Sanyo
- Samsung
- Toshiba
- Fujitsu
- and many others...

In installations that include several lines, with many indoor units and some outdoor units, it is possible to acquire the status of these machines and control them from the centralized control system, thanks to the use of the **CoolMasterNet** gateway from *CoolAutomation*.

This gateway automatically connects to the bus that links all indoor and outdoor units and scans them. Once the units are found, it presents them on its touchscreen, from which basic commands (turn on/off, adjust setpoint) can be given, as well as on its RS232/RS485 serial interface and its Ethernet interface.

The available protocols are as follows:

- RS232: ASCII protocol for integration into systems like Control4
- RS485: Modbus RTU protocol for integration into supervision systems
- Ethernet: ASCII and Modbus TCP/IP protocol

The product is very interesting for installations with several indoor and outdoor units, as their acquisition is fully automatic and the cost of the gateway per unit is quite low.

For installations where only indoor units need to be controlled, and if there are fewer than 3-4 indoor units, a Modbus RTU / Infrared gateway can be used. The product is the **IR-712A** from *ICPDAS*.

Thanks to this gateway, indoor units can be controlled via the same infrared port used by the standard remote control.
The gateway integrates an RS485 serial port for Modbus RTU connection and two independent IR outputs.
