4G Tracking: A Pillar of Industry 4.0

In the era of pervasive digitisation, Industry 4.0 has introduced a series of innovations that are radically transforming the way companies operate. Among these, the tracking of company vehicles via 4G trackers plays a crucial role, offering unprecedented visibility over fleets and optimising logistics processes.

Why is 4G tracking important?

  • Route optimisation: 4G trackers allow real-time monitoring of the location of vehicles, enabling more efficient route planning, shorter delivery times and lower fuel costs.
  • Increased productivity: With the data collected by the trackers, drivers' driving styles can be analysed, risky behaviour identified and measures implemented to improve efficiency.
  • Increased security: Real-time geolocalisation facilitates vehicle tracking and immediate location in the event of an emergency, ensuring greater safety for drivers and transported goods.
  • Preventive maintenance: Trackers can provide data on vehicle performance, allowing preventive maintenance to be scheduled and reducing downtime.
  • Transparency and accountability: Vehicle tracking offers greater transparency in logistics operations, facilitating cost control and improving fleet management.
  • Integration with IoT: 4G trackers can be integrated with other IoT technologies, such as sensors for monitoring environmental conditions inside vehicles or for managing mixed fleets (vehicles, machinery, equipment).

How it fits into Industry 4.0?

4G tracking fits perfectly into the Industry 4.0 paradigm, helping to create an intelligent and interconnected production system. The data collected by the trackers can be integrated with other company information systems, enabling more informed decisions and optimisation of the entire value chain.

In conclusion, enterprise asset tracking via 4G trackers represents a key technology for companies that want to improve their operational efficiency, reduce costs and increase competitiveness in the global marketplace.

With this in mind, MARCOM developed software with .NET framework 4.8 technology for the Windows operating system and compatible with Windows 7+ and Windows Server 2019+.

The software makes it very simple and automatic to receive data from the supported tracker models. It also makes it possible both to make the data available on the OPC / OPC UA interface and to save them to MySQL/MariaDB or MsSQL databases.

In particular, this second possibility opens the door to the integration of physical tracking devices within one's own management systems, through interfacing with a simple database.

Data are automatically acquired, decoded and saved on DB.
During the configuration phase of the software, it is possible to set it in learning mode to have it automatically add all quantities transmitted by the tracker.

Some of the most interesting compatible trackers are:

  • FMC650 - 4G LTE Bluetooth dual SIM GPS tracker with CAN and data support TACHOGRAPH.
  • FMC920 - Small smart tracker with 4G cat1 connectivity, Bluetooth
  • FMC230 - LTE CAT 1 waterproof terminal with flexible input configuration
